Tidy Towns Spring Clean Up

It is most hopefully third time lucky as Tidy Towns has selected this Wednesday, 21st May for Spring Clean. The two previous efforts had to be called off due to bad weather conditions. Once again we are asking volunteers to come out. Even one hour with many hands much can be done. Please come out. Adjudication time is fast approaching. Because of the wet weather we are well behind with this year’s programme. Assemble on Square at 7pm. Gloves and high vis will be supplied.

Shave or Dye

On Friday May 24th the Haydogs of Rooskey & surrounding areas are hosting a major charity event in conjunction with the Today FM’s Shave or Dye to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society. The day time event is kicking off in ’Elle-Ann’s Funky Fringes hair salon” Tarmonbarry where a number of well known locals heads are being dyed - also street entertainment & collections taking place from 2pm in Tarmonbarry.

Dog attacks

Two weeks ago, dogs attacked sheep at a local farm. They killed two sheep and ate a lamb. The same dogs came back and did so once more last weekend, killing more sheep belonging to the same farmer. Gardai have been notified and all dogs should be locked up or tied up during the night hours. No-one should think their dog is harmless. When they’re loose, they meet with other dogs and no-one knows what they’re capable of.

The Aughavas Gathering weekend will take place on Friday 9 August to Sunday 11 August 2013. A number of events are being organised in the parish which include, access to details of Church records for families from 1800 onwards and the marking of family plots in all the graveyards in the parish. School roll books from the many schools in the parish will also be on display.

Change of Day for Blood Bank

The Blood Transfusion mobile unit team will return again to The Community Centre, Ballinamore on Wednesday 29th May from 3.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m and 7.00p.m. to 9.30 p.m. Please note the change of day. Some 3000 units (pints) of blood are needed overall each week to cater for emergency and routine cases requiring transfusions of blood and blood products in hospitals all over the country.

Aughrim/Kilmore Gathering weekend is now just over 3 weeks away. The weekend gets underway on Friday the 14th of June with a shotgun start game of golf in Carrick-on-Shannon getting underway at 6am. REMINDER: Payment of Annual Water Maintenance Charge Now Due. By the Friday, 31st May, the Committee who run the Scheme (voluntarily) hope to have completed the collection of this year’s charge of €150. The number of payments collected to-date are ahead of expectations and the Committee are confident the vast majority of its members (nearly 400) will have paid by the end of the month.

This week at the Ballagh Centre the Thursday Club have invited Rachel Reilly from Mental Health Ireland to talk as part of the nationwide “Green Ribbon Campaign”.
